Woman with Back painYour Osteopathy questions answered:

What does an Osteopath actually do when you see them?

The first time you see an osteopath, they will ask you all about your entire medical history, a bit like when you visit a doctor. They will take your blood pressure, check your reflexes, and carry out a few neurological and muscular tests to enable them to come to a diagnosis of why you are in pain.

Then, if we think we can help you, we’ll begin treatment.

Sometimes we’ll stretch you out like this.

Sometimes we’ll stretch you out like this.

Sometimes we’ll put a little short fast thrust across your back that will cause a little ‘pop’ sound in your back. This doesn’t hurt. Promise. It can’t damage or injure you (when performed by a qualified osteopath). It will make you feel SO much better.

Cranial Osteopathy in practiceSometimes we will just hold your head like in the picture on the left.

Then we’ll give you a few stretches and exercises to do at home to speed up your recovery time, and will also give you general day to day lifestyle advice that you need to follow.

What that all means is you are going to feel a whole lot better.
